ROOTS NIGHT with KUBICK’s RUBES, July 13th

The summer season is in full swing!  Next Thursday, July 13th at Johnny’s Pub & Grill, Roots Night Presents Kubick’s Rubes!  We’ve once again corralled The Rubes for your listening pleasure!  You’ll be treated to their old-time and bluegrass styles, with a little country and swing thrown in for good measure. The Rubes love a great song, close harmonies, and the simple pleasures of picking together.

Performing mainly on fiddle, and singing harmony, Betsy Kubick plays bluegrass, old time, Cajun, and other roots-type music. She is currently a member of the “Pickle Sisters” and always wanted to name a band “Kubick’s Rubes.”

Betsy and guitarist, Mark Manzoni, have been singing and playing together for years. A guitar junky since childhood, Mark unplugged after hearing Doc Watson and David Bromberg play flat-pick style in the 70s. Mark plays many different types of music, but spends most of his time picking traditional and bluegrass styles.

Paul Swiatek brings decades of experience on banjo, guitar, and vocals. He started performing in the Rochester area in 1978 with “Reeves and Swiatek” and has been writing and performing his own folk and bluegrass songs ever since.

On bass is Jordan Kleiman, who has played jazz and roots music in Philadelphia and Rochester since the 1980s.  Aside from the Rubes, he plays bass with Rochester-based bluegrass band “The Crooked North,” backs up the “Pickle Sisters,” and enjoys taking an occasional old-time gig with the “Wild Root String Band,” the “Rough Alley Rounders,” and others.

Old Time Hoedown will start the night off at 7:30 and then clear the stage around 8:15 for Kubick’s Rubes, who will thrill you with their strings and vocals from 8:30-9:30.  Then for the final hour we’ll invite all you instrument-totin’ folks to join us for a rousing old-time jam, which will wrap up around 10:30.

Grab a bite to eat off the menu, quench your thirst with a cool and refreshing libation, and tap your toes to some great music!

ROOTS NIGHT AT JOHNNY’S – GONE FISHIN’

Hi friends!

We are very excited that “Old Time Hoedown Presents Roots Night” is moving over to Johnny’s Pub & Grill at 1382  Culver Road this coming Thursday, April 13th! Many thanks to Johnny Savino and Kristin Flammia Joubert for picking up our series! We hope to make you proud!

We will be hitting it out the the park at the get-go with long-time friends, “Gone Fishin’,” a band of six great friends and brothers who have been entertaining in the Webster and surrounding area for over 30 years!

This six piece bluegrass band grew their love of music and the outdoors into a life-long passion for the fun of playing in front of a crowd, whether it be in a coffee house, bar or at the Webster Gazebo.  Their music-making continues to provide joy and purpose.

Webster natives Don Hauza (guitar) and Dick Cataldi (fiddle) founded the group in the late 70’s when they took a vacation in the Adirondacks together.  Dick’s brothers Tony (bass) and Steve (mandolin/vocals) Cataldi soon joined the group, playing music in the many little bars and restaurants in the Adirondack region, gaining a following of dedicated fans.  Shortly thereafter, Mark Manzoni (lead guitar/vocals) helped step the band into high gear with strong musical talent and an injection of great new songs.  A few years ago Dan Gurbacki joined as their high-energy banjo expert.

We (Old Time Hoedown) will start the night off at 7:30 and then clear the stage around 8:15 for Gone Fishin’, who, from 8:30-9:30, will wow you with their mix of traditional bluegrass, country tunes, jazzie flavors and even some rock as they share the fun they are having on stage with you!  Get ready for some toe-tapping bluegrass!  Around 9:30 or so, we’ll  invite you instrument-totin’ folks to join us for a rousing old-time jam, which will wrap up around 10:30, unless we go longer!

Please join us Thursday, April 13th, grab a bite to eat off the menu, quench your thirst with a cool and refreshing libation, and tap your toes to some great music!
